Custom Hammerhead - Yankees Themed

Every now and then we get the opportunity to do some really neat custom work. Luckily we are teamed up with award winning artist James Kunzinger from JaymzAir Studios. This is a 48" hammerhead 3D (viewable from all sides) decorated with the Yankees logo, and all the years they won the World Series.

As many of us southerners know, Sheepshead have almost human like teeth. Sheepshead gather around rock clusters, dock pilings and any structures that contains barnacles and areas that provide shelter to small crustaceans, shrimps, etc.

Red Snapper Fish Mount Used In Seafood Display

Our fish mounts are sold world wide and most often for decoration or for commemorating that special catch. However, it is always interesting to see how they are used for other options. Roxanne J. purchased one of our 32" Red Snapper Full Mounts to use in her seafood display. This picture showcases the replica in her beautiful trade show display. Please Help Stop Unnecessary Closures Of Grouper & Snapper

The South Atlantic Fisheries Management Council (SAFMC) has now made major closures of snapper and grouper fisheries and has a proposal for a total closure of snapper for an undetermined amount of time, as well as a proposal to stop all bottom fishing because of the potential that a snapper may be killed as by catch. The areas affected run from the Carolina to Key West and similar restrictions are being enacted in the Gulf.

In a cooperative effort the following clubs and organizations have joined forces to fight current and potential fishery closures dictated by the SAFMC as well as demand the science used to enact those closures be examined and fixed.

Our members have fished and dived along the Florida East coast areas for many years and maintain a first hand knowledge of the health of the fishery. To be honest- where it was in decline 20 years ago, the current restrictions for minimum size and catch have worked to point where we believe the red snapper stock is healthier than it has been at any time in the last 25 years.

We contest the data being presented that shows the fishery to be in decline as being significantly flawed. And to be honest, as sportsmen, if we felt that the fishery was in trouble as we did many years ago, we would advocate new restrictions. These draconian measures are already having a catastrophic economical snowball effect in the State of Florida, from tourism dollars, to tackle and bait shops to charter Captains along with a degradation in the historical way of life for all involved.

But the biggest impact will be to our way of life as citizens of this country and what we support as our right to be able to go out and fish, have a good time and eat what we catch in a reasonable recreational sustainable fishery.

The petition calls for Congress to pass legislation to restrict the Commerce Department from enacting any further closures in the South Atlantic Region, and rescind the current interim closure of Red Snapper until fisheries managers improve the MRFSS system (data collection) and it passes a peer review.

3D Fish Mounts - Catfish, Yellow Eye Snapper & Tiger Shark

We have been cranking out some 3D mounts lately, seems to be the new rush in fish mount decorating. Here are a few pictures; Small chicken size Yellow Eye Red Snapper, Juvenile Tiger Shark (actually, customer ordered blacktip shark but wanted the tiger shark markings), Channel Catfish on Pedestal - This one is a gag gift for Frito Lay.... some sort of internal gag gift for "bottom feeding" sales managers.. pretty funny stuff.

Red Snapper Closure For 6 Months - What are they thinking???

Our friends from Deep Blue Sea sent this to out and I would ask that anyone that enjoys red snapper fishing in the Atlantic please take a few minutes to express your opinion by following the link below.

Dear Fellow Angler,

The SAFMC has voted 7 to 6 in favor of an interim rule request asking
NOAA to close the Red Snapper fishery in the South Atlantic to ALL
fishermen for 6 months.

NOAA is seeking public comment on this interim rule. Unless there is a
large outpouring of dissent from the public, this fishery will be
closed. The closure is based on fatally flawed science and grossly
inadequate economic impact studies.

What can you do? Go to http://safmc.deep-blue-sea.org and tell the NOAA,
Congress, and the Governor what you think. You can enter your comments
in one place, and they will be forwarded to all the public officials and
entered as an official comment. It will take less than 5 minutes, and
may help get Congress understand we have a broken fisheries management
system.

A Bill has been introduced in the US House to to amend the
Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act to extend the
authorized time period for rebuilding of certain overfished fisheries,

Customer Decorates Fence Line With HSS Wahoo

Summer Snook Were Firing Over the 4th of July Weekend

Well, it took me a week to get to writing this blog but here it is. Jen and I spent the 4th of July weekend down in Fort Pierce, at Dockside Inn, with our good friends Capt. Ed and Candy Dwyer. Our plan was to relax and celebrate our independence and attempt to hook up with some fat snooks. Mission Accomplished! Between the 4 of us we caught 15 snooks and released a handfull of Goliath and Gag Groupers. Might just have to make myself a fish replica of the fatty 37" Snook I released on the last night. Of course Ed had to show me up with his fat 41" linesider.

Dolphin Research Offshore Port Canaveral

Jen and I ventured offshore on Memorial Day with our good friend Eric Mays on his boat Fish Tales, to try and catch some Dolphin (mahi-mahi) so we could cast some new molds. We found the fish in 250' of water and proceeded to catch 9 of them. We also raised two sailfish. The ocean was incredibly beautiful especially after a week of constant rain.

Hoff Productions Orders 3D Mako Shark For National Geographic

Hoff Productions, who is currently producing a show for National Geographic - Hooked Again: Monster Fish II, recently contacted us for a specific request. They needed a Mako Shark replica that could be filmed from all angles. We created a 61" 3D (viewable from all sides), you can see the mold on our website by clicking HERE, and we finished the shark with a matte, rough textured sealant, giving the replica the natural look as a real mako shark.

Alabama Youth Angler's Catch On Display At Bass Pro Shops

Dale Badgett, Friend of MTFC Sets Local Club Record With 39# Permit

Longtime friend of Mount This Fish Company, Dale Badgett, recently crushed an FSFA club record with a #39 Permit while fishing with Mike Cochran. Now, for some southern florida anglers this size Permit is an occasional catch, but up here in East Central Florida, this is one heck of a catch.

Here is a quote from FSFA's monthly newsletter

Club Record Permit: Who’da thunk it? Two new
club records set in the last six weeks on permit, and
not down in the Keys either! The fish were caught right
here off Port Canaveral on live crabs. In fact, one of the
new records is the largest permit ever submitted to the
FSFA! Live crabs seem to be the ticket. These fish can
appear extremely uninterested in just about anything
else. Dale Badgett holds the new light general record
at 39 lb. 0 oz. caught on 10 pound test line with a live
crab (also a 3:1 catch). Mike Cochran holds the new
general class record with 24 lb. 10 oz. caught on 30
lb. test line with a live crab. Congratulations to both

Custom Fish Replicas Versus Standard Fish Replicas

For many businesses the goal is to get the job in and out quick. The faster you can finish the job the quicker you can get paid right? I guess thats true but there's something to be said about creating custom fish replicas for the customer.

When a customer orders a fish replica off our website we always contact the customer asking them if they would like to send in a picture for us to reference when replicating. The standard paint customers are the quickest to create for we do nothing extra and paint our standard way of painting.

However the reward of seeing a customers reaction when we create a replica just as they remember it is truly special.

Dennis Bass caught his biggest sailfish out of Port Canaveral and asked us to do a replica. He asked that we paint it similar to the picture and cut the tears in the dorsal sail. When finished he was completely stoked and truly satisfied with his new replica. While the job took longer than the standard 84" Sailfish mount it sure was nice to feel the excitement he was feeling as he left the shop.

I guess the moral to the story is that standard can be more profitable but not necessarily as fulfilling.

Sometimes Its Good To Give, Especially To Local Fishing Events

Quite often we receive calls from tournament directors asking us to support their events. I can relate since I have been tournament director for many offshore tournaments over the past decade. However, it's impossible to give support to all of them. We do however try to support our local tournaments. We realize that without tournament sponsors the tournaments will have less to give, which will draw less anglers which in turn is less money spent throughout the marine community.

Two representatives of the TREASURE COAST FLATS CIRCUIT picked up a truck full of replicas that will be awarded to winners this upcoming weekend.

Well, not real ones. We recently shipped a large order of fish replicas to a hotel in Bulgeria. The owner is an avid fisherman and invites all fisherman to visit his hotel if in the area.

The following is a email we received from the hotel manager.

Hi, Mr. Denson,

The hotel is situated at the exit of our city – Sliven . It is meant to be something like motel or a small hotel along the highway which is directed to Black sea .
The building is not new and our company is renovating it. My boss is absolute fan of see accessories, fish, and boats. That’s why he owns a fish processing and commercial company.
I am sending a map where I marked out our city – Sliven and the hotel. The name is “Saint Nikola”. In Bulgarian religion, St Nikola is protector of seaman and boats.

Fish Mount Research Project For F.I.U.

Mount This Fish Company had the recent request to create 3 grouper fish mounts, viewable from all sides, to be used in an under water scientific experiment at Florida International University. Here are a few pictures of the Grouper Fish Mounts prior to being crated and sent to South Florida.

We will update this blog if FIU sends us some underwater pictures from the experiment.
